'Pod Party'
 
Lobsters? I didn't intentionally set out to create a painting depicting characterful, dancing lobsters. I worked on the large 120 x 100 cm canvas whenever I went into my studio, sometimes for hours, other times for just 10 minutes at a time over many weeks.
 
I like to have a sizeable work in progress piece for visitors to my studio to see all the layers that are involved in a painting as an insight to how I work.
 
During the last weekend of Marlborough Open Studios visitors were beginning to ask what my intentions were. I'd already spotted these crazy characters and knew they needed just a little bit of coaxing in order to emerge, but I felt just a bit too shy to say it was going to be a painting of lobsters, it seemed too far out, even for me!
 
The idea wouldn't leave me alone, so I had to go with it. If anyone knows the story of my parrot painting, they know it came about in a very similar way.
 
I absolutely love the happy, groovy vibe this painting has. and other do too as it was awarded Best in Show at CMAF2023.
 
I create these paintings by adding layer, upon layer of paint. I use many different techniques to apply the paint, as well as scratching down with various tools to reveal layers underneath.
 
My paintings are full of meaning and filled with colour, love and joy.
 
The painting is acyrlic on deep box canvas 120 x 100 x 5cm
 
This painting is unframed, signed on the back and complete with d-rings and hanging string so it can go straight on the wall.
 
I carefully wrap and despatch orders as soon as possible and send via a signed for service.
